You have pieced and are quilting a beautiful gift. Marley is a very fortunate little girl! I have recently gotten a quilt frame also and am about to foray into working on a full sized log cabin. Gulp!

Annie, How exciting!!! She is so big now. She was Annabelle's age last time I saw her. It's so strange seeing Erik in civilian clothes...LOL. And Gavin is so big. Ahhh..I need to come visit :)

Annie,

I check every time I come on the BHM site. I have 4 daughters and have always had you in my thoughts, especially when you have been so absent. New babies are a reason, but sometimes there is even something new to cope with, as with Gavin.

My youngest is now 14, but even without an early sign that something is making it hard for our kids, there are still things to deal with on a day to day basis.

I wish you the best.

I work now in the schools with many children who are at risk. In the elementary grades, I know I have one boy in my care this year who is also autistic, and although I understand the desire to homeschool and have relatives and friends who homeschool, that is not the reality for so many kids, And these kids will grow up with our kids, and their only chance is people who have a heart and a passion to teach and nurture them.
Sometimes I get a little frustrated with the "homeschool thing" becuse I am a single mome and know that all of my kids would have been left at home all day while I worked to pay the bills if they were "homeschooled."

Homeschooling is all great if you can do it, but the reality is that most kids are not going to have that opportunitity, and they are the very kids that are going to be out there in the world with your kids.

That is why I am now working in Head Start, and I know it is a Federaly Funded program, but if people could only see the progress that these 3 and 4 year olds make during a year, and the progress that some of their parents make in being self-sufficient, WOW! One of the most asked for things in a parent survey was being able to be prepared for an emergency!

I got up on a stump there, but I do not think that the average family in America can afford to homeschool their children, and I also personally know so many teachers, and their heart is in the right place. They are amazing people in general. (Of course there are always exceptions, but aren't there always?)

Anyway, I have been looking verty week for your updates, but am totally supportive that family and job have gotten in the way. I wish you the best.

Annie,
I am sorry to hear that Gavin got diagnosed with Autism. We know a few autistic kids though the gluten free community. Most autistic kids do VERY well (you wouldn't even know they have autism) on a gluten free/casein free diet. We know some that go as far as grain free. If you decide to go down "that road" and need any help in the gluten free department let me know.

I'm glad to see you're back! I've been reading Backwoods Home off and on since it's inception and when you were still a young girl. It's interesting to hear about your life and the projects that you like to work on. I have two young children at home and like to garden, can, bake, sew and just make stuff too. Anyway I'll drop in again......

I baked the cookies too.. They were great, not too rich. I divided the cookie dough into thirds and froze two parts for later baking otherwise my husband Bill would have eaten all the cookies. I am serious!
Anyway, thanks for the incentive and congrats on your newest addition. You have a beautiful family!
