By the way…

April 29th, 2009

Have I mentioned that we bought a house? Probably not since I’ve been so wrapped up in Erik’s return (thank you for all the warm welcomes!), various deadlines, various kid colds, and life in general. I figure it might be time to make our announcement, though.

We bought our first house!

Our new house

Actually, it went down like this: I told my husband, “Come Hell or high water, I will buy a house before you get out of the Marine Corps.”

And he, being the intelligent man he is, said, “Okay.”

Yes, it really was that easy.

Erik’s return from Iraq comes just in time to sign all of the loan and closing paperwork. We’re scheduled to close in about two weeks–a week after Erik arrives and the day after deadline for issue 118.

Oh it’s adorable! The combination of soft yellow and bright red, with all that green and the requisite “white picket fence” — a happy little dream house.

Congradulations!!! I am so happy for you. Don’t forget when getting
your taxes done next year, your family may qualify for the first time
homeowners credit. As long as the home was not bought from immediate
family, you have not owned a main home in the last three years, and the home was purchased between April 6, 2009 and December 31, 2009, you may qualify for a credit of up to 8,000.00 depending on the purchased price. 2008 homeowners credit must be paid back 500.00 a year for the next 13 years. 2009 credit does NOT have to be paid back. Hope you qualify.

It is absolutely perfect! Can’t think of anyone who deserves it more than all of you! Have fun decorating and raising your family. Annie, I know with all your talent that you will fix things up so nice – hope you put some pictures on the website as you go along. If I lived close by I would bring you a casserole on moving day – probably some McAllen, Texas Chicken Enchiladas. Enjoy!

I must say, I’m a little surprised at what you chose, considering this is *backwoods* home.com. ((grins)) It’s… in a suburb, not the backwoods! Suburbs being not as safe when SHTF, but with a Marine for a husband, I’m guessing you’d get out of Dodge okay, hm?

I already told my hub – our next house is gonna be underground. There’s one four miles up the road, and it just fascinates me… did some reading on Earthships and it seems the smarter way to go. We all have our dreams…

Cute! We bought our first home last year, and it is fun to make it our own with decorating, gardens, etc. Best wishes to you!

That town is so small there is no such thing as a sub – urban area because there is no urban area. In a small town you are either “in town” or “out of town.” “In town” means you can get to school and the grocery store quickly, but there are no malls, freeways, manufacturing plants, etc. You’ve still got backwoods cred to me! :)

Have been visiting your blog for quite a while now. So glad to see that you’ve got your own house now. You have shown your talented hand at so many projects, I just know that you will make it so cute & sweet. Good luck on the remodel & new baby, too!
Can we form a Committee on the Abolition of Wall-to-Wall Carpeting??
    Cheers,
