Deployed
First, I want to thank everyone for your lovely comments and emails over the past few weeks. We certainly miss our biggest guy, but we’re all fine. This is actually our third deployment (twice to Iraq), so things are pretty much business as usual. Communication is vastly improved since the last time he was there, and we expect to hear from him a lot more. Erik arrived at his camp right around October 1st. If all goes as scheduled, he’ll be home around April.

Here’s a photo that the wonderful Freeport Flag Ladies took of Erik while he was waiting in the Bangor, Maine airport for his flight out of the U.S. These ladies are amazing–they see off as many of our cammy-clad Ladies and Gents as they can, take their pictures, and give them a little gift to send them on their way.
P.S. I don’t know if you can see them in the photo, but Erik is wearing pink earphones. I have the khaki set here at home, and we were going to trade, but he worried that they might “go missing.” He’s pretty sure no one will “borrow” his cute pink pair.
My husband comes home in April, too. You are lucky for such a short deployment. I know you did say in an earlier post that it could possibly be for a year, though. Have you found out since then, that he will be home in April, for sure? My husband is US Army, and is in Korea right now. I know it will be a joyful time of reunion for your family and mine! My husband (James) was also in Iraq twice, but only for 2-3 months at a time, so that was really nice. He will be going back to the unit that he was in at that time, in April, so we are really excited. His tour to Korea has been awful. It is with a regular Army unit, so he feels useless there. Anyway, I have subscribed to your blog, and have been enjoying everything that you write! TTYL
What a great picture…and so nice of the ladies that took it!!
I am glad you are able to have good communication with your hubby..and hopefully the time will go by fast. It is wonderful that you are with family in the meantime..and sounds like you are staying busy for sure!!
Take care!!!
Love, Aunt Jenny
thank you for the link to the Freeport Flag Ladies…the pictures of all the soldiers are REALLY great, especially the one titled “Saluting the young warriers”
Annie! I am so thrilled to see that Erik got off well. It has been ages since I have heard from you- I hope that you and the kiddos are well and taking the deployment in stride. PLEASE drop me a line if you find a spare moment- would love to hear from you!
Oceans of love to all- praying for a safe return to your man!!!
Kate
My husband returned from his first deployment to Iraq in September of 2007. He is currently on his second tour right now. It is always so hard to say goodbye.
Our job as military wives is never easy and like parenting, does not come with a manual. We learn from other wives and by going through these things ourselves.
*hugs* to you and may Erik come home safely.
are you ever going to write any thing else? I wear out my fingers checking out you, jacki and your dad. Not much on guns tho I think we should have the right to have them.
Hi Annie, you have inspired me to do a lot of crafty things lately…Sewing Crocheting, and finally getting around to using that pressure canner I have been so terrified of! All of which I stopped doing but picked back up.I hope you write again soon, I really like your blog.
Sincerely,
Fellow young wife Dana ( :
Oh how funny! No, I think his pink ones might be safe. My hubby has the same problem, with things getting “borrowed” over there. That might be an idea….one that I use with my travel mugs. I get the girliest “Froo-froo” mugs I can find, then he doesn’t take them to work, where I’ll never see them again!
