Boot socks for the man

I just couldn’t hold out any longer. I’ve already started knitting socks for Erik out of the freshly spun wool. It is so nice to work with that I’m having trouble putting my needles down long enough to take pictures. I am very happy with the texture, which despite it’s slightly thick and thinness, is evening itself out nicely in the knitting. I’m sort of making up the pattern as I go along, but when I finish I’ll be sure to write down the whole thing and share it with you. I’ll tell you what I’ve done so far: I started with 60 stitches using a long tail cast on. I worked knit 3 purl 2 ribbing for 40 rounds, then I knit 1, knit 2 together, purl 2 around, (so now you’re down to 48 stitches) and continued on in knit 2 purl 2 ribbing for 30 more rounds. I switched to plain (stockinette) knitting for 10 rounds, then I took the picture. Next I’ll work a heel. I usually do an hourglass heel, but I think I might try something a little new this time… maybe. :)

I’m so happy that you do all this knitting, I’m knitting forever and I just wanted to tell you that I’m very proud of the fact that there are still other Mom’s out there who love to make things for there family with there own hands and not going to buy everything from the store.

Thank you! I have to say that I am rather proud that I CAN make a lot of the things my family needs so I don’t HAVE to go to the store. In fact, nearly every “hobby” I’ve cultivated is in direct result of a need. The need for clothing=learning to sew well. The need for warmth=learning to make quilts. The need for good food=learning to preserve with the canner. And of course everybody needs socks. :)

    Wonderful job Annie,
The kids are gorgeous, you are a great mom. I’m so proud of you.
The skeins you gave me are working up into a scarf for your always-cold mom. It will have vintage fabric yo-yo’s on the ends. The yarn is nice to work with.
    Tell Eric hello,
    love to you all,
    Maren

Don’t tell her about the scarf it’s for her birthday.
    XOXOXO
