Coats & Clark thread is my enemy

October 2nd, 2005

While finishing up the last bits of O’s three new sets of jammies, my thread kept splitting and breaking. I changed the needle, changed to my other spool of white thread, cleaned my machine, re-threaded top and bobbin several times, but to no avail. Break. Rethread. Four inches of blind hem stitch–Break. Two inches–Break. I just bought this stuff a couple weeks ago, but obviously I bought trash. I finished up with some Gutermann thread that matched the ribbing I put on the jammies, so at least I didn’t have to wait until next week to finish. I don’t usually get mad while sewing. It usually relaxes me, so when I started swearing E made me drink a root beer and sit down. When we go thru Phoenix next week I’ll pick up some new good quality Gutermann thread. Lesson learned: Don’t shop at Wal-Mart.

In other news, yesterday evening I finished up the other front of E’s cardigan, then started on a sleeve. My yarn supply is starting to look a little sparse. I’m going to weigh the sweater when I’m finished, so I can figure out how many skeins it took. I should have kept track to start with, but some of the yarn was frogged from another project, so I’m not sure how accurate that would have been anyway. The sleeves aren’t cabled, just plain stockinette.

I have yet to replace the buttons on O’s outfits, as mentioned on my Friday list, but maybe I’ll get to them today when she gets up from her nap.
